The Situation
____________
After receiving two new patents on one of their marketed drugs, a Global 2000 pharmaceutical company sought to partner with a highly-qualified competitive strategy firm that could deliver up-to-date, fully-validated intelligence on competitors’ plans to develop a related product for PAH. The client engaged Sedulo to build a competitive landscape for PAH.
The Solution
____________
In order to construct a detailed portrait of the current competitive landscape, Sedulo’s skilled staff leveraged Sedulo’s Outside-In Approach. After consulting publicly-published information (e.g. clinical trial registries, competitor press releases, earnings calls, conference presentations, etc.) to form a general knowledge base of the current PAH landscape, Sedulo’s Primary Research Specialists interviewed high-value clinical, regulatory and commercial sources at eight competing companies.
The Success
___________
After the completion of research, Sedulo leveraged strategic analysis tools and data visualization to compile relevant findings into a report that summarized the competitive landscape. Sedulo provided an executive summary outlining all relevant products in development, along with key insights and estimated timelines for trial completion, regulatory submission, approval, and product launch. Sedulo’s landscape report included profiles on five key competitors, along with intelligence on relevant generics from three other companies. Due to Sedulo’s research, the client gained a more comprehensive understanding of where they stood in the competitive landscape and what they should expect in the near future.
Key insights included:
- Intelligence on the termination of key Phase III trials for competitor products
- The identification of two competitors seeking approval in the next year and a half
- A threat matrix indicating the threat level of competing products based on their potential impact to the client and their likelihood of success.
